Batam! 3 December 2008 7:05 pm
Hey, hey, hey! Just got back from Batam, and I'm really glad. I hate going overseas. But if there's amusement parks, i have no objections.

Anyways, my family and I stayed at Holiday Inn resort. Not a bad hotel, tv has decent channels (very important), and my supply of books did not run out. I watched a Dr. Oz on Oprah marathon on Hallmark and i learnt about this thing called 'safe toilet syndrome'. Whenever you visit another country, do you ever feel constipated? Well, you're not alone. 85% of Americans confess to this syndrome called 'safe toilet syndrome', where as you do not trust the toilets that are not in your own fair country, you refuse to use them at all, except for relatively short businesses. Additionally, as holidayers are constantly on the move, they we do not receive the required amounts of fibre and water to poo successfully. Interesting. Additional facts include: The Neti pot: a nose bidet, it would not harm you if you hold your fart in and you actually can be allergic to your husband's sperm. Fascinating.

Rapid change of topic: We arrived at 3.30 so there's not much to tell you except that we ate dinner at a nearby seafood restaurant. it is really worth the money. two crabs, calamari (my choice pick. seriously. best calamari i have ever eaten), vegetables, fried rice and others that i can't remember all at the low low price of S$45 (approximately). But it's in this really secluded area, so it's hard to locate by your own. Luckily, the hotel hired a car to bring us there (which is a 3 mins drive. lol. but through boggy land and rough terrain) and the big boss (which is this lady doing accounting who really gives out this aura of authority) was kind enough to give us a lift home. she even loaned us her bottle of mosquito lotion which was VERY effective.

On the second day, we ate breakfast at the hotel. which is not much to talk about. lunch was at this mega shopping mall which is either called Nagoya hill, or located on Nagoya Hill. Either ways, the mega mart in it is waaaaay big. And the lays potato chips? WAAAAy cheap. S$0.45 for a very reasonable size of chips which otherwise would be $2 in Singapore. The Milo chocolate bar was also under a dollar. nice eh? Oh yeah, lunch was at this restaurant... but i wasn't paying attention, so i can't really say much about it. But we did visit an A&W chain, and their root beer tastes.... different. Not as nice as before but still good. Lunch was back at the hotel, and we ate barbeque. But all the meals came with buffalo ribs, so it was waaaay alot of food to chow down. I ordered Salmon, and it came with the buffalo ribs and assorted side dishes. So i took bread, butter rice (very nice), risotto in cream sauce (not very nice), corn on cob (mmmm), fried assorted vegetables (bleahz) and mashed potatoes (YUMMY!). The soup looked pretty weird and it was some kinda meat soup so i didn't try it. And...the most important part of the meal... dessert! There were 3 kinds to choose from (and of course, i tried them all): pumpkin tart, banana tart and apple strudel. The pumpkin tart was horrible - there was too much cinnamon and the nutmeg wasn't exactly a nice touch. Banana tart and apple strudel was good, but not out-of-the-ordinary.

Aaaaand the third day was uneventful. We ate breakfast at the hotel and lunch at a chinese restaurant in the hotel. Basic dim sum and 2 soups. Average fare, but on the good side.

Well, i guess that's it. I do not have any photos as I FORGOT TO BRING THE DANG CAMERA. but that's not really very bad.

Oh yeah, with all the chaos of last minute bookings, i forgot to post about Xin's, Joey's and my day out together to watch wild child! (ok that sentence doesn't sound grammatical). The movie was all right, except it had a rather typical finding-yourself-in-this-crazy-and-alien-world theme. Got a shock when i saw that Alex Pettyfer was Freddy. He looks real different from his stormbreaker days. and salwa has a huuuuge crush on alex pettyfer. she thinks he is cute. *shudder*.

*sighs* guess i'm too immature to understand the inner workings of a centaur's raging hormonal mind....

The writer, just for clarification, can poo perfectly well on dirty, foreign toilets.
